My dissertation will explore the intersection between poetry and philosophy, particularly through examining the influence of mysticism (esp. Orphism/Pythagoreanism), on philosophical thought and on canonical hymns, theurgy, liturgy, and more. This project will situate philosophical notions like soul-body dualism, cosmology, and ontology in their poetic, mystic heritage, especially with a view to ‘mystic’ influence on the Presocratics, Pindar, Plato, and beyond -— thus contributing to a broader image of the distinct poetics of early Greek philosophy and eschatology.
