Academic Background

Following a Rome Scholarship at the British School at Rome, Dr DeLaine came to Oxford as a Junior Research Fellow at St John's College.She was Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Archaeology, University of Reading, before returning to Oxford in 2005. She was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, London in 1999.[4] In 2010, she was elected as a Corresponding Member of the Archaeological Institute of America, and in 2014 held a Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science Senior Research Fellowship at the Department of Architecture and Urban Design, Kyushu University.

Research Interests

Janet's research concerns the built environment of the Roman world, including architecture and urbanism in the Mediterranean, especially the Roman building industry, Roman bath houses, and the urban development of Ostia.
